I'm reading Writing the Sacred Journey, by Elizabeth J. Andrew. She asks questions through out the book. The one that got me thinking was
What are some of the grand themes of your life?
She frames these as: what keeps coming up in your journal? What do you ponder at night? What do you want to ask others at potlucks?
I had just spent time going through our photos to create a slide show for New Year's Eve with friends. Seeing what I have taken photos of through out the years made me think about the themes in my life.
MY grand themes?
Adventure, exploration, trying new things
Celebration
A sense of wonder
Love of the wild, natural world
Making a difference
Story
Are these the "grand"themes of my life?

There are 3 things that are most important in this world:
ReplyDeleteThe first is to be kind.
The second is to be kind.
The third is to be kind.
My pastor says to "listen non-judgmentally" is the greatest gift of kindness you can give someone. Try not to make this quest too complicated, my luv. Just learn to listen and be kind. I think we all travel that labyrinth round and round but when we get to the center we find out that we already had the knowledge we were searching for. In Avatar, the new movie, when one person greeted someone whom they loved and respected they simply each said "I see you." We need to work on just "seeing" one another.
Julie,
ReplyDeleteI think the grand themes in your life are what you say the grand themes in your life are. And the ones you live out. From what I know of you, you're living out at least the exploration theme (which I think includes the sense of wonder), your love of the natural world, and making a difference in the world. To me story seems more like the way you figure out the themes in your life (and in other people's lives). What are the stories you tell yourself about your themes?
